GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu Participates in Fun "Ask Me Anything" Session, Opens Up About His Poker Journey and WSOP Plans

GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu recently took part in an engaging "Ask Me Anything" session, where fans could fire away with any question.

Aside from reflecting on his 30-year poker career, Kid Poker also shared his WSOP battle plan, including the online bracelet events in August. Let’s dive in.

Q: What’s the proudest moment of your poker career?

A: One that stands out recently was winning the Super High Roller Bowl, where I outlasted a field of elite players.

Q: Cash games or tournaments?

A: Cash games don’t give you trophies—just money. And I already have money.

Q: What should fans keep in mind when approaching you? (E.g., not interrupting you during breaks?)

A: If you see me idling at the table between hands, that’s a good time to get my attention. But breaks are the worst! I only have 15 minutes to film vlogs, use the restroom, and handle other stuff—so I’m always in a rush.

Q: After succeeding in old-school poker, was it hard to integrate modern poker theory into your strategy?

A: Great question. When I study theory, I commit fully—I dig deep until I truly master it. Once I do, I don’t fear losing what I originally learned. Instead, I merge new concepts with the poker instincts I’ve built over 30+ years.

Q: Do you still feel the same passion for poker as when you started?GGPoker

A: When I was younger, I could grind day and night, year-round, with endless excitement. Now, I pace myself between series to keep my passion alive. I never want to play just for the sake of playing.

Q: If you could replay one hand, which would it be and why?

A: Looking back, there are so many pivotal hands I’d play differently. But changing the past alters the future—and I’m happy with how things turned out.

If I had to pick one, it’d be the 2001 WSOP Main Event against Carlos Mortensen. We were down to 12 players, and I was the chip leader with AK vs. his pocket sixes in a massive pot. If I could go back, I’d just fold pre.

Q: Any advice for WSOP players?

A:

  1. Study the schedule—decide what matters most: making Day 2? The money? Profit? Glory? Have a rough plan.

  2. Use early levels to gather intel on opponents. Don’t overplay before you’ve sized them up.

  3. Accept you’ll probably lose. Instead of fearing busting, play fearlessly—bluff when needed!

Q: Most anticipated event this WSOP? Will you play online bracelet events?

A: I’m a mixed-game lover, so the $50K Poker Players Championship is my top pick. I’ll also compete in GGPoker’s WSOP Online Bracelet Series in August—with live streams, just like last year.

Q: Finally, your most unforgettable WSOP moment?

A: It has to be the 2015 WSOP Main Event when Joe McKeehan rivered a straight with J3 against my A4. I collapsed in despair—that was a soul-crushing beat!
